February 2019

Interesting month with the warmest weather on record leading to tennis conditions often worthy of summer. On the other hand, we had snow. The highlight of the month was the sight of a member having to ask one of our kind neighbours if they could retrieve their racket from the neighbours garden. We have a rule about not retreiving balls, but rackets???? – er, wait a minute… HOW!!!! Graciously, our neighbour acquiesced to the request.

Tennis ladders are now in place, and ready for action. Good luck everyone.

January 2019

Most club days were playable and well attended. Despite the sometimes arctic temperatures, between 8 and 18 people turned up, allowing a great mix of friendly semi-competitive tennis. It is quite evident over the past year that the vast majority of playing members have improved and are continuing to do so.

Hot tea and coffee, with supplies of biscuits kindly bought in by members, have entertained those waiting their turn on the courts, whilst intermittent gasps of astonishment were uttered in appreciation of the odd stunning shot or rally. Sitting next to the clubhouse, facing south can be a little sun-trap, and very pleasant, even if the words BREXIT occasionally have slipped out to spoil the moment…..  all against the backdrop of Swaledale and Richmond on some crisp clear days.

Most of us would agree we really do live and play in one of the best places in the country. We look forward to hearing from and meeting anyone new who wishes to get involved. Reduced pro-rata rates are in place up until the April subs renewal dates.

The date and agenda for the AGM is out, and we really want members to attend and give their opinions on their club. See you there!

For members who wish to bring their friends and family to play tennis at Westfields Tennis Club, the following applies:

  • All visitors must be signed into the Visitor Book by a member and the associated fee paid before play commences.
    • Adult Visitors: £3.00 per visit
    • Junior Visitors: £1.00 per visit
  • Each visitor can be signed in by a member up to a maximum of 6 times.
  • If there is a circumstance where a member wishes to increase the maximum, they should contact the committee who will make a decision based on the reasons provided.
