Plea to members.

The committee would be grateful if all members driving to and from Westfields would take extra care and drive slowly along the road, given a recent incident reported to the club. It is not known whether any club member was at fault but regardless, we do not wish to generate an adverse reputation with any local residents, hence this request.

Many thanks for your co-operation which is greatly appreciated.

On 11 May the LTA advised Tennis Clubs that tennis activity in England will be able to take place outdoors from Wednesday 13 May with:

  • SINGLES PLAY ONLY, or except
  • where PLAYERS ARE ALL FROM SAME HOUSEHOLD (eg families), in which case they can play doubles. On this basis and until further notice, Westfields Tennis Club will re-open on Friday 15 May 2020 for singles only and doubles play with same household members in line with strict LTA/UK Government guidelines.  The Committee hope that these imposed restrictions will be adhered to by members for your own safety and protection.
The Committee appreciate that we are all wanting to get back on court and play tennis as soon as possible and we have put in place some new Use of Court Instructions as below, to allow as many members to play as possible, and  more importantly, to further ensure member safety and protection.  These instructions will apply until further notice.  Please refer to the link attached for your information.—latest-advice/

  • Adhere to the current social distancing restrictions of 2 metres at all times
  • Clubhouse closed (no access to toilet facilities) – (the lock has temporarily been changed)
  • The Committee ask that members only play 1 hour per day, to enable everybody an opportunity to play. To avoid disappointment and maximise social distancing, we ask that members utilise the Clubspark online court booking system wherever possible.
  • Online Court booking system – limited to 1 hour per day per member, and is restricted to 15 days in advance
  • Tennis balls – please bring your own to use (2 different brands if possible and serve only with the tennis balls that you bring)
  • Hand sanitizer – please bring your own, but this will also be provided on both courts by the Club, along with wipes to wipe door handles when being locked up
  • Please do not lock the courts unless you are the last known booking of the day
  • If the courts are left open through the day, there is no need to use  wipes
  • All Club sessions cancelled until further notice
  • There is no court seating
  • DO NOT TOUCH the net posts/winders before or after play, as they have already been set to the correct height.
  • First Aid Kit is located in front of clubhouse door and placed in a suitable container
  • NO VISITORS to play until further notice, only members can play
  • One to one coaching with Phil Wylie and Geoff Thomas for up to one hour per day, (but note this counts as your 1 hour per day). MEMBERS SHOULD BOOK the hour session using the online booking system (and not the coaches).

Please respect and adhere to these Instructions.  As a member of the Club you are agreeing to be bound by these Instructions, and could be disciplined if they are not followed.  A failure to comply with the instructions by any member or group of members, could result in them being reported by the public to the Police or LTA.  Club members in turn could be fined by the Police, or the Club reported directly to the LTA, which could result in total closure of the courts.

These Instructions will also be hosted on the Club website.

Some planned diary activities are cancelled – 2020 Club competitions, Inter club matches, friendly doubles matches, social events, and planned open day.

Westfields Christmas Meal & Presentations

This year’s event took place in the Station at Richmond on 23rd November. A big thank you to those who arranged, attended, and hopefully enjoyed a great evening.

Below are some memories recorded for those who attended… hmmmm… Peter seems to be in all of them except the ones with trophies. Nicely done.

Sad news

20/11/19 .   We sadly have to announce the passing of John Dickinson at James Cook Hospital with his family around him after a lengthy battle with illness. A well known and highly valued member of Westfields Tennis Club over many years, he was a team and club session stalwart who also devoted much effort into looking after the grounds and club whilst he was able. We wish his wife and club member Angela all the best at this very sad time, and our condolences go to all his family, of which we know he was very proud.

There will be a service of remembrance for John on a date yet to be determined.

Westfields Christmas Meal & Presentations

Lost Property

Numerous items of clothing/ accessories have been languishing in the clubhouse for some time. These have been collected and stored. The intention is to dispose of unclaimed items at the end of April 2019.

If you think something might be yours, and want it back, please contact a member of the committee before the end of the month.

Now we’re into May 2019, it’s too late to recover lost clothing and accessories, as warned above, clearance has taken place. We apologize to anyone adversely affected in so doing.

Pre-Wimbledon Strawberries and Pimms Fun Mixed Tournament

In some of the best summer weather, about twenty adult members arrived before 1pm on Saturday 29th June to take part in an afternoon of tennis. Partners were drawn and the pairs played a round robin in two groups of five to provide two semi-finalists from each group.

The cream rose to the top and in the end, a competitive final between Anne B, with John L, against Rob H and Gill C….. Rob and Gill prevailed, winning the salver for this year.

Congratulations to the winners, finalists, and everyone who played. The spread provided was highly agreeable to all who had to eventually down rackets. A big thank you to the organizers from us all.

For members who wish to bring their friends and family to play tennis at Westfields Tennis Club, the following applies:

    • Adult Visitors: £3.00 per visit
    • Junior Visitors: £1.00 per visit
  • Each visitor can be signed in by a member up to a maximum of 6 times.
  • If there is a circumstance where a member wishes to increase the maximum, they should contact the committee who will make a decision based on the reasons provided.
